Jim’s Highlights – part 2

As highlighted yesterday, Jim had difficulty keeping to the word count for our Harris highlights of 2015 feature so weve given him his own two blogs to talk about his favourite projects heres part two! Find part one here.

Our client Novus Property Solutions was undertaking the refurbishment and redecoration of a homeless shelter in Bristol, for people with complex needs.

Rather than produce a ‘makeover’ style video, we approached the film from the viewpoint of the residents. Over the period of a week, we filmed the progress of the refurbishment, interviewed residents, Novus people and staff of the shelter.

Whilst the transformation of the shelter in just five working days was astonishing, the way the project affected all concerned was what really made the work memorable.

Novus’ staff approached the project initially from a logistical and practical standpoint. But as the work progressed and the improvements were clearly impacting on the residents, Novus became engaged on a personal level taking on additional works which weren’t part of the initial brief but they knew would improve the day-to-day experience of the residents. In turn, the residents became engaged with the project, to the point of helping out where they could.

The resulting interviews with both Novus staff and residents gave a sensitive and personal touch to the film, contributing significantly to the production of an engaging film.

Far from the conventional corporate production, this was a real life film which was moving, humanising and rewarding to work on.
