Getting to know: Karla
Our success is built on people. Coffee helps, but our people are the ones who turn our clients’ visions into realities.
We’re proud of our team so why not show them off and let you get to know a little more about them!
In the first of our new series, we catch up with our resident Mexican, Karla López Crowley, and find out how she made Leeds her home.
Tell us a bit about your role at Harris.
I’m responsible for delivering creative communication campaigns to be executed across our clients’ social media channels. I have to ensure that their online reputation is 100% positive and reflects the personality they want to transmit.
How would you describe the culture at Harris?
Extremely transparent, full of good ideas, hard work is appreciated and there is not a single day that passes by without laughing.
What’s been your favourite project to work on?
Since I started working at Harris, we’ve been inundated with exciting projects, however, I really enjoy the ones that involve helping out the community such as the Novus Changing Lives programme and the recent Howarth Timber competition in which they gave away free materials.
How did you end up in Leeds – can you give us a bit of history?
I came here in 2014 to study a MA in public relations and strategic communication, however, the city wasn’t picked randomly. I came here because in 2009 I met a British man in China and after some years of long distance relationship, we decided to live in the same country and Leeds was the city he was living in.
What does Mexico do better than the UK/England?
Food (excluding desserts)! Not even the best fish and chips in the UK can beat some tacos, enchiladas, chilaquiles or pozole.
What is the last series you watched on Netflix?
I’m currently watching Better Call Saul and every Louis Theroux documentary I can find.
What song is stuck in your head?
Coastal Love by HONNE.
What did you eat for breakfast today?
Frosted cinnamon roll Pop-Tarts and grapes.
Your mum compared you to a popular Cartoon Network character – what’s her name, and why the comparison?
Elmyra Duff from the Tiny Toons – she loves animals, however, she hugs them a bit too hard…just like me!
