Getting to Know: Adam

Next on our list of who we’re getting to know is Adam Norris, our digital developer and web analyst. You might already know that he’s a fan of nights in with a box set and curry, but can you guess which comedy he’s seen 20 times? You’re in the right place to find out!

Tell us a bit about your role at Harris?

I work as a digital developer which means I’m mostly responsible for building and maintaining client websites. I’m often involved in the whole process, from initial designs and planning, all the way through to development and optimisation.

How would you describe the culture at Harris?

It’s really relaxed and friendly. We’re a really close-knit team and I think that’s one of our strengths as a business. We’re all trying to achieve the same goal and we try to help each other out where possible.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?

The best part about building websites is that once they’re live, they can be accessed by anybody, anywhere in the world. It’s exciting to see something you’ve made being used by so many people.

You used to be a teacher – what made you decide to become a digital developer?

I enjoyed teaching but after a number of years I found myself wanting to do something different. I’ve always been a fan of puzzles, and web development uses a lot of the same skills. It often takes a combination of working methodically and creatively to figure out the solution to a problem.

You love nights in with a curry, but can you pick a favourite curry?

Hmm. I like medium curries like Bhuna, Jalfrezi and Korai but will eat pretty much anything as long as there’s naan bread on offer!

What box set are you currently watching?

My wife and I are currently working our way through Stranger Things although I love re-watching shows I’ve seen countless times before such as Star Trek, Simpsons, Scrubs or Buffy.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I’ve played the guitar since I was 15 and am now learning the piano so anything where I get to create/play music is great. I also enjoy table-top gaming, particularly Euro-style games such as 7 Wonders, Carcassonne, Pandemic or Ticket to Ride.

What’s your favourite ever film?

I’m a big fan of Sci-Fi films like Gattaca, The Martian and Minority Report but also adore comedy and feel-good films. I’ve seen Mean Girls about 20 times!

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

I’d definitely choose to be able to manipulate time. We have two young children at home so free time can be a rare thing indeed!
