Novus Property Solutions has been involved in countless community initiatives around the UK, but in 2015 the company sent a team of experts to refurbish the Busy Bees Nursery in Cape Town, South Africa.
Our director of public relations, Guy Atkinson, was asked to accompany the team on the trip, to provide a wide-ranging multimedia service and bring the once-in-a-lifetime project bursting to life for everyone back home.
To generate a buzz before the project commenced, we achieved press coverage about the five members of staff travelling to Cape Town in the regional newspapers of each person’s town or city.
Guy’s photography captured the physical work being undertaken by the team, as well as the impact it was having on the people who used the space.
In addition to capturing engaging stills of the project, Guy documented the success of the trip in a three-minute film, shot in the style of a colourful travel vlog, providing a warm, ‘human’ perspective on his experience of the project, rather than a colder, ‘corporate’ film.
Guy cultivated further interest in the project by delivering insightful, engaging social media updates across Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn for the duration of the trip.
Once the team was back in the UK, we set about promoting the impact of the trip. This involved coverage in the team members’ local press, widespread coverage across Novus’ key trade publications, online promotion of the video, and a dedicated supplement for Novus’ quarterly newsletter.
The project’s biggest result was 200 children enjoying a new, vibrant learning environment.
But it was also one of the most successful projects Novus has ever undertaken in terms of the press coverage, social media engagement and goodwill it received from across the industry.
Reach and engagement across social media channels during the trip increased by more than 1,000%, with a deluge of new followers, likes and connections.
Novus achieved huge exposure in the towns and cities where the team members lived, with significant features in newspapers and on TV.
Novus now has an incredible library of footage and photography to showcase the memorable work carried out, forming a valuable source of PR content for many years to come.
“It was a real pleasure having Guy as part of our South Africa team. Harris doesn’t feel like a supplier, but more of an extension of the marketing department, and this is a perfect example of great teamwork and feeling part of the family.”
